Please remember to follow the provincial health orders to ensure that the rinks can remain open for the season. Please remember that the clubhouse is closed. There are no washrooms onsite and you will need to put your skates on outside.
Have fun and stay safe!!
We have received clarification on the rules for outdoor rinks from the Province/GCWCC. Park City West will begin flooding the rinks as soon as the weather permits.
Rules are as follows:
1. Individuals outside of a 5 person family unit must stay 2 metres apart. If there are too many people on the ice and you cannot maintain a 2 metre distance from those outside of your household, you will need to wait until someone comes off the ice.
2. No washrooms or change facilities are provided. You will have to use your vehicle/come dressed. The community club will not be open.
3. Masks are not required.
4. Ice cannot be rented for practices, games or for any other reason.
5. Please clean up after yourself. Garbage bins are provided.
If you have any questions, please email pcwccadmin@shaw.ca
I hope that this note finds you all safe and healthy.
As some of you are aware the province recently amended its Code Red restrictions to allow for small social gatherings during some outdoor activities. Specifically, they are allowing for small gatherings outdoors to skate. In conjunction with this community clubs were advised we could begin installing outdoor ice immediately.
As it stands right now, the province has also stipulated that it will be the responsibility of each the community centre to enforce ALL social distancing and public health guidelines, and that liability will fall on the centre if rules are not followed. At this time, we are still facing several hurdles despite the announcement last Friday.
Today, we received a notice from the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres (GCWCC - the governing body of our city's community centres) to advise against flooding until more information can be obtained from the City, their lawyers, the Public Health Department, and Bylaw Enforcement.
Despite the building and property being owned by the City of Winnipeg, the Board of Directors is responsible for the operations and activities of the centre. This is where community centres differ from the city owned and run recreational facilities and parks. It’s also why we must rely heavily on volunteers to operate.
As a result of the current conditions, unfortunately, Park City West Community Centre WILL NOT be installing ice on its outdoor rinks at this time. As a volunteer board we are monitoring the situation closely. We are working with the city and province to see if there is any potential solution to this issue. Should there be any changes to the Code Red restrictions scheduled to end on January 8th or should there be a solution to policing social distancing guidelines, we will look at the situation again to determine if it is feasible to install ice and notify the public accordingly.
If you are interested in learning more about how the Community Centre runs or looking to lend a helping hand, we'd gladly invite you to join the board of directors! If you have questions or concerns please feel free to email the club at pcwccadmin@shaw.ca
